Williston Trinity Christian extends a cordial invitation to all young musicians of the surrounding areas to participate in our first Summer Music Workshop @ WTCS. We offer Band Workshops from June 5th–8 th; and Orchestra & Commercial Music Workshops from June 18th– 22nd.

* Beginner through intermediate/advanced students will have the opportunity to work with highly qualified instructors on a daily basis.

* Each instructor will be an expert in a specific family of instruments, and will conduct daily sectional rehearsals, and provide coaching to individual students as needed.

* The intensive week will culminate in a concert where students will showcase what they have worked on during the week.

* Students will have an hour of practice by themselves to work on their pieces/ensemble parts.

STRINGS/ORCHESTRA:  Monday-Friday, June 18-22.  Workshop Fee:  $80.

The Strings/Orchestra workshop will be divided into two sessions.

Morning Sessions (8:00am until Noon) will be available for students being introduced to string instruments for the very first time.

Afternoon sessions (1:30-5:00pm) will accommodate students who have at least a semester’s worth of experience playing string instruments or demonstrate a certain level of proficiency.

Tuesday-Friday, June 5-8.  Workshop Fee: $80.

Middle School Band (grades 6-9, 8:30am-Noon) will be available for students grades 6th through 9th with at least two years experience and/or demonstrate a certain level of proficiency. The Middle School sessions will be held in the mornings from 8:00am to 12 pm.

High School Concert Band (grades 9-12, 1:30-5:00pm) will be available for students grades 9th through 12th who have demonstrated a certain level of proficiency. High school sessions will be held in the afternoons from 1:30 to 5 pm.

COMMERCIAL MUSIC:  Monday-Friday, June 18-22.  Workshop Fee: $80.

Commercial Music Workshop (grades 9-12, 1:30-5:00pm): This will be helpful for all students whether beginners or more advanced. We will focus on two primary areas of today’s music:

* Vocal styles such as country, jazz and pop,

* And basic songwriting techniques for each style.

Instructor: Mr. Paul Thorson, is an accomplished Christian country/pop songwriter from Nashville, Tn. with a career touring as a solo artist. You will begin to learn how to breathe correctly for all styles of singing as well as understanding the difference in each style as it relates to singing and songwriting.

Welcome Meriel Lora, new WTCS Music Teacher!!

Meriel Lora is a young conductor with a master’s degree in orchestral conducting from Andrews University. Lora was born in Rhode Island and raised in the Dominican Republic. He began piano lessons and solfeggio at the age of eight. In the fall of 2008 he entered Walla Walla University where he received a B.A. in music with an emphasis in piano under the guidance of Dr. Leonard Richter. Lora has studied with Eddy Gonzales (piano), Jose Ramon Rojas (flute), Ivan Dominguez (piano), Maria Irene Blanco (piano), Davide Caiffa (cello), and Mario Veras (flute). He has studied conducting with Francisco Hernandez, Darwin Aquino, Radu Pantea, John Dennison, Brandon Beck, Claudio Gonzalez, Allan Mitchell, Donald Appert, Adrian Gnam, and Gregory Pritchard.

Lora’s early accomplishments include first place at the 2005 Latin American Music Festival in the piano category, first place at the 2006 Summer Piano Competition, and first place at the 2006 Piano Concerto Competition in the Dominican Republic. He also formed and conducted the orchestra of Centro Musical Vivaldi from 2005 to 2007. Lora received the opportunity to conduct Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony at the Young Conductor’s Workshop concert in 2006, Dominican Republic. From 2008 to 2013, he served as undergraduate assistant conductor to the Walla Walla University Orchestra under the direction of John Dennison and Brandon Beck. In 2011 and 2012 he won gold and silver medals in the Spokane Music Festival Baroque and Romantic Collegiate Piano Division.

In the fall of 2013, he began his graduate studies at Andrews University under the guidance of Dr Claudio Gonzalez and served as the graduate assistant conductor of the Andrews University Symphony Orchestra. In the summers of 2014, 2015, and 2016 Lora formed and conducted the Andrews University Community Chamber Orchestra. During the 2014 fall season, he served as the assistant conductor for the Clark College Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Donald Appert in Vancouver, Washington, and associate conductor of the Jewish Community Orchestra in Portland, Oregon.

We welcome Meriel Lora to Williston Trinity Christian School as our Music Teacher this fall.
