WTCS Freshman Sherlyne Linn competed in the North Dakota High School Activities Association (NDHSAA) State B Speech competition on Saturday, April 24th in Mandan. We are proud to announce that Sherlyne placed 8th in her category of Storytelling! Way to Go CRU!
What is Storytelling? A different story (ranging from 7 to 9 minutes) is provided for each round of judging. Then participants have 30 minutes to prepare their presentation/interpretation of the story. Different categories of stories are offered, such as fairy tales, myths, legends, fables, mystery stories, and children’s stories. For judging, each participant re-tells the story without the benefit of script or notes of any kind. They must stay true to intent and ethnicity of story.
What do you love most about speech? “One thing I love about speech is that you get to meet new people and you get to see how others are creative with their speech category.”
What do you like about the storytelling category? “I like that you get to act and no one is really watching you – only the judge.”
Will you join speech again next year? “I will participate again next year. I love doing speech. It is super fun & you get to meet new people. Most kids are super nice. Speech is a great club to join because you get to make memories.”
