Derek Lee, Senior at Williston Trinity Christian School, signed his letter of intent to play baseball at the University of Jamestown. Derek is a three sport athlete – playing basketball for the WTCS Crusaders and participating through a co-op with Williston High School in soccer and baseball. He is a 3 year captain for basketball and was named a captain for the 2021 soccer team.
Derek is excited to continue his baseball career at the University of Jamestown. Derek says, “I love the game of baseball. I’m thankful to UJ Coach Hager for the opportunity to continue doing what I love. I also want to thank all of my Williston coaches – WHS Coach Finders and Post 37 Keybirds’ Coach Egge and all of my other coaches for the time they have put into helping me develop as a player. I’m grateful for my family and friends and for their support.”
Derek has maintained a 4.1 GPA and is a member of the Cru Honors Institute. He plans to pursue a degree in Physical Therapy.
“We are so proud of Derek and the effort he has put into everything he does,” say parents Chad and Jamie Lee. “He is a great example of how hard work and determination can help you achieve your goals. We are thankful for the amazing group of teachers and coaches who have poured into him over the years.”
Quote from WHS Head Baseball Coach Aaron Finders: “Derek Lee has a bright future in his academics and in baseball at Jamestown. He has worked very hard to have this opportunity. I’m so proud and happy for Derek and his family.”
Quote from WTCS Basketball Coach Braaten: “Derek has been everything you want in a student athlete. I can say without a doubt that he not only has been one of my most reliable, constant basketball players over the last 4 years, he also became a great friend. There are certain players in a coach’s career that will stand out as more than just a player. Derek is one of those players. Baseball is his priority, but as a basketball coach I could never tell. He would do anything and everything to try and make his basketball training fit within his baseball training. Derek has a rare gift of being very athletic, great iq on and off the court, driven, and coachable. These gifts are what makes him such a special basketball and baseball player. I know without a doubt he will continue to excel in every area of his life, academically and extracurricularly.”
Make a gift that lasts a lifetime. When you support year end giving to WTCS, you are passing on a gift that changes young people’s lives.
“My time at Williston Trinity Christian School as a student was instrumental in forming the foundation of my faith, and many lifelong friendships. Now as a parent, my wife and I want our children to be in an environment that will provide them a quality education in context with our faith. We value the small student to teacher ratio for the greater attention and guidance it allows, but we also value that their faith can establish a foundation and grow.”
-Lucas Gjovig, ’99 Alum & Current WTCS Parent, Chief Operating Officer of Go Wireline

S.E.W. Summary
October 11-14, 2021
We had an amazing week last week for our fall Spiritual Emphasis Week. The students had a variety of activities to participate in and they seemed to enjoy all of them.
We started our week with an all-school chapel service in the gym. Our praise team led us in some worship songs and then we heard from Mr. Randy Schlossin who told us about our upcoming opportunity with Feed My Starving Children. He gave statistics on the number of children in the world who die from starvation every day. Some of these children are praying for food, and we at WTCS are privileged to be part of the answer to their prayers even though they are halfway around the world!
On Tuesday we had another all school chapel service in the gym. This time our guest speaker was Todd Erickson and his friend, Rex the Wonder Dog. The students all LOVE it when they come to share with us. Todd gave us a very good reminder of WHY we do things such as pack food bags for the hungry. We don’t just do it so that people will think we are good kids. We do it so that our light can shine for Jesus. We want people to see our good works and glorify our Father in heaven!
On Wednesday we again gathered in the chapel for even more opportunities for ministry. We started out by learning a song for our verse of the year, 1 Corinthians 16:13-14 Be on your guard, stand firm in the faith, be courageous, be strong. Do everything in love. Then we started our Memory Verse Partner activity. Each elementary student was paired with upper grade students and we spread out in the gym to begin working on a 100-verse Bible Memory Challenge! It was awesome to see the entire student body studying God’s Word together. We spent about 15 minutes on the Bible Memory activity, then we gathered back and presented Campus Chaplain Adam Coughlin with some notes and words of encouragement in honor of Pastor Appreciation month. We have been blessed to have him with us and we wanted to show our appreciation.
Our last activity during that chapel session was watching some videos promoting a ministry called Project Ignite Light. It is a ministry to children who are victims of abuse. We were presented with opportunities that we as a school can help by providing items for backpacks that are distributed to children when they are taken from their homes and placed in foster care. We will be setting goals for our school in the coming days. Some of the possibilities are: making fleece blankets, purchasing pajamas, socks, underwear, personal items such as shampoo, toothbrushes, etc. The ministry website is www.ignitelight.org
Thursday and Friday were the days that we participated in Feed My Starving Children. Students from first grade through seniors participated in packing food for this ministry. It was amazing to see how our students worked so hard and so cheerfully on this project!
This was open to community members as well and we had several guests who came and helped us pack food packets. Total for the week was: 772 boxes–186,624 meals!
